Part 1 started last week by introducing what the Word of God is and how God speaks to us through His word (The Bible). If you haven’t read that one yet, please stop here and read it before proceeding to Part 2.
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. (Psalm 119:105)
What do I mean by accessing the Word of God? You would think all you have to do is open the Bible and read. Ta-da!
However, what I’m talking about here, are attitudes or state of mind you must have when approaching the Word of God. We are going to be discussing that below:
The very first and most important one is,
Desire: The Word of God is capable of building you therefore it is inherent that you desire to grow in the knowledge of God. “As newborn babes desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby” (I Peter 2:2 NKJV).
You need to bear in mind that God’s word is powerful and it causes you to prosper in all things. “so is my Word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11 NIV). Did you also know that the provision for your healing has been made available in the Word of God? “By the power of his word, he healed you and saved you from destruction”. (Psalms 107:20 CEV)
The Word of God is able to transform you into the person God originally designed you to be. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2 NIV)
Faith: Believing everything written in the Bible is true and is for you. It is incorruptible, authentic, and flawless “having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,” (1 Peter 1:23 NKJV) “As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.” (2 Samuel 22:31 NIV)
For the word of God to work in your life, you need to have faith in it. Everything in existence today originated from the Word, therefore everything responds to the Word of God.
In Luke 7:1-10, Jesus complained about the people at the time because they didn’t believe him and what in the words he spoke. But the faith of the centurion amazed him. “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel. Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.” (Luke 7:9-10 NIV)
So faith is the very basics. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6)
Action: Faith doesn’t just end with hearing but doing it. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NIV)
From the above scripture, we see there is an action part that is of utmost importance as well. That is taking steps in line with what the scripture says and walking in its light.
Obeying the word of God is equally a show of your love for Him. You don’t only get the word activated in your life, you also prove to God that you love Him, acknowledge Him and honour Him. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15-31).
For a fact, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Bible is God’s direct word to us written by great apostles of God through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Everything Christianity is based on God’s word. Make God's word your roots. Everything you want in this life can be found and has been provided for through the Word of God. All you need to do is condition your mind and heart to access your inheritance in the Word of God.
If you have the slightest desire to meet Jesus Christ and make Him Lord over your life, say this prayer aloud;
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for sending your Son, Jesus to atone for my sins, by shedding His blood through death on the cross. Today, I receive and confess Jesus as my personal, Lord and Saviour. I receive forgiveness and the gift of righteousness by my faith in Him. Thank You Father as I can now declare that I am born again in the name of Jesus. Amen!
You’re welcome to the family of God.
